Minister Richard Bruton TD speaking at Open for Business
Okay this is (probably) the last post about Open for Business
Thanks to MerrionStreetNews for this video of Minister Richard Bruton TD speaking at our annual conference on May 12th last
Come along to Audio Video Culture next Thursday
IIA Events has a very interesting day lined up next week. It’s ideal for businesses and individuals who are looking to use video and audio content in their working lives and for those who are currently using these mediums, but want to develop their expertise in order to maximize their digital footprint.
Audio Video Culture is on the Clarion Hotel IFSC, Dublin, from 1.30pm to 5.15pm on Thursday 22nd April.
There’s a number of great speakers from YouTube, RTE Player, RaboDirect.ie and more, who will be sharing their experiences in the planning, production, distribution, monetisation and measurement of audio and video media and what’s coming in the future. For instance, Fred Caballero of Channelship will be talking about Online Video on a Budget, Peter O’Nell of Mason Hayes+Curran will discuss Digital Content and the law. That’s an area I’d be very interested in hearing more about.
The event is kindly sponsored by Bord Gáis Energy and is part of our ongoing series of events with the IIA Social Media Working Group. It will take a look at some of the possibilities for video and audio content to drive your business online as well as case studies of how it has been done successfully to date.
The regular price per person is €75.00 or if you are an IIA member, it’s €45.00. I am also very happy to offer an additional 10% discount if you use this Voucher code when booking: Video2010.
IIA members should log into the site to avail of the member price.
Villa81 join the conversation
Thanks to Emmet Ryan of Villa81 who made this video which sums up the launch yesterday of “Join the Conversation: The Guide to Blogging for Business“.
RealWire give the real story
I met Adam Parker of RealWire at our recent event that we co-hosted with Net Imperative in the Guiness Storehouse on Wednesday 28th January. Since then he sent me a tweet with a link to the following video which he thought our members might find useful. I think it really clarifies the knock-on effect of maximising your online presence. Worth a watch.

What about your videos?
We have a new video widget on the IIA homepage to which we invite members to submit YouTube videos. I created this video just before Christmas in order to show off the space. Happily it has been replaced since! I’d love to update this on a regular basis so please do email your YouTube URLs to members@iia.ie and we’d be happy to showcase yours.
FYI nothing fancy involved in creating the above video either: some stock photographs from IStockphoto.com, some podsafe music from PodShow.com all mushed together in Windows Movie Maker which comes with Windows Vista. See comments on previous post to read more about what other people use for quick and dirty videos or please add your own comments about software and hardware you use for video creation.
Blogging for business: interview with authentic bin lorry wild track
Krishna De of BizGrowthNews.com and member of the IIA Social Media Working Group interviewed myself and Brendan Hughes of FBD and Chair of the group right after our workshop on the draft guide to Business Blogging on December 5th last. This workshop went very well not least because of Krishna’s great facilitation which ensured that participants gave as much as they got from the afternoon. Unfortunately we had some competition from a bin lorry towards the end of our conversation
While on the subject of social media, I’d like to draw your attention to what Krishna did here. She has a good quality digital still camera that can also capture video. Nothing fancy. At every event I see Krishna at I will often see her doing quick interviews with participants or speakers about their work, their thoughts on the events or current issues etc. Then she tidies up the video (I’m not sure which software she uses or how long this takes generally.) and it is perfect material for a blog. From a promotional point of view it’s a great way to get your blog noticed. For example this video below has been published in at least three places that I know of and already today has had 39 views on YouTube. Think of that in terms of your blog and how it could help you promote your company or your expertise. For those who are not so literary minded but are great speakers it’s a great way to blog.
Moving pictures speak two thousand words
One of the IIA member companies, Prosperity, recently ran an event featuring Martin Bailie from Glue in London. As a picture speaks a thousand words and a moving picture twice that I will allow their four and half minute video to tell you all about it.
A unique videoview-point
A big welcome to Videoview who just joined the IIA. Videoview create rich video marketing for broadcast online, via DVD and on television. While they still haven’t cracked the old television puts on ten pounds chestnut but they are offering packages to suit all budgets, which allows any size company to avail of their interactive solutions for TV/Broadcast, Web Video, and DVD production.
15 minutes of fame is like so ’68
Welcome to the IIA’s newest members Life on Media. Based in Galway, they offer clients a branded news TV service which their clients can display online, on screens or on devices. With scaled packages of up to 24 programmes Life on Media are certainly raising the bar on Andy Warhol’s 15 minutes of fame! One of their suggestions for use is as staff training or updates via the company intranet which is a novel way to make company announcements more arresting.
Time to CVizz things up a bit
A big welcome for
CVizz, the IIA’s newest members. CVizz is an on-line VideoCV builder and hosting service that allows Graduates & Post Graduates to create and present a VideoCV profile to numerous employers. As a recent enough jobseeker myself I can really see how being able to point potential employers to a short video about your skills and experience could certainly make you stand out from the crowd. CVizz are already getting some notice from other bloggers most notably Ivan at JobsBlog.ie and the HR and Recruitment blog. Unlike me, these bloggers know what employers and candidates want, so check out what they have to say. Marie Carroll CEO of CVizz tells me that CVizz have great plans that are about to come to fruition so watch this space!
