Online Bullying – do you care about this issue?
The IIA takes the issue of online bullying, and the targeting of vulnerable people online seriously. It recognises that in today’s society, this has become a serious issue and is a blight morally, socially and commercially on the advancement of the internet on the Island. The IIA seeks member companies to take part in a consultation process to explore how the Irish internet industry can tackle the issues involved. This may involve some, all, or none of the following:- monitoring, moderating- drafting best practice guidelines for parents and concerned relatives
- providing access to support services in NI and RoI
- providing advertising and links to support sites, e.g. webwise.ie, spin.ie, hotline.ie
- providing access to experts in the field for government ministers seeking to address issues
Please get involved if this is of interest. Ideally, we would like to be able to issue some guidelines to the industry without having the remit to be a regulator. Post a comment here or contact fergal@iia.ie in confidence.
