Feedback Friday: Pressieport.ie steps up

January 30, 2009 · Posted in Feedback Friday, Uncategorized

So the first company in our brand new feature “Feedback Friday” is Pressieport.ie who are also one of the newest members of the IIA. The idea with Feedback Friday is to allow members of the IIA to seek feedback on their site and in fact Fred from Pressieport.ie describes what he hopes to get from it himself:

pressieportPressieport.ie launched in November 2007 and then re-launched in June 2008 on a brand new platform (you live, you learn). We focus on trying to provide our customers with a different and original range of products/gifts than might generally be available on the High Street in Ireland and we pride ourselves on our Customer Service and the fact that we deliver to your door overnight anywhere in Ireland. In addition to this we provide a gift-wrapping service and personalised greeting card service. We are constantly looking for and working on improvements, but being in the thick of it means that sometimes it can be difficult to have objective or detached opinions about different aspects of the site. It is for this reason that we would really welcome feedback and suggestions from fellow IIA members and readers of this blog whether it is negative or positive.

The site can be viewed at www.pressieport.ie. You can leave comments below or pingback from your own blog.  And, if you don’t mind, a few pointers in order to make this a pleasant and constructive experience for all:

  1. We are looking for feedback on the site: on its navigation, usability, accessibility, design, optimisation and any other nuts and bolts aspects that you in your own specialised expert field might notice.
  2. Tell us what you like about the site, not neccesarily the service or goods Pressieport are offering.
  3. Tell us what you don’t like about the site and please try to express exactly what it is that irks you. “I don’t like the photographs.” is not as helpful as “I think photographs that give a better idea of the recommended usage of the product would be better.” (A hypothetical example :) )
  4. Make sure you let us know where you blogged your contribution to Feedback Friday.
  5. Have a look at this wiki from Wikihow.com which I think sums feedback up generally.
  6. If you can ‘t say anything nicely maybe you should go for elocution/ creative writing lessons :)

Thanks!

    Love the site… some points:

1 On the newsletter signup provide link to current and use as opportunity to show offers

2 Love that you have Paypal. Excellent! On the “same as billing address” part you need a button to make it more obvious for next step.

3 Provide a “Suggest a Gift” and where you saw it form.

    Hi Fred

Well done for putting out there for feedback.

First off, I like the site and your product. All seems to work well.

I like the way you are up front with your delivery charge, a bugbear of mine on other shopping sites. I’m not a fan of delivery charges (who is?) but at least if I can see it upfront there are no nasty surprises at the checkout.

Also, good idea to mention 100% Irish in these troubled times.

You say you “focus on trying to provide our customers with a different and original range of products/gifts than might generally be available on the High Street in Ireland”

My feedback is that this focus is not immediately obvious. When I visit your site I see lots of gifts to be sure so it must be a gift shop. But what makes this one different? And why should I stay and have a look around? I don’t have the solution but you might want to get some heads thinking about it.

    Good luck.

    Regards
    David Conway

    Hi Chris,

Thanks a million and great suggestions to improve both customer experience and business processes. Nice one!

Krishna De had some great pointers on Twitter which are well worth a look as well if you are planning some developments to your site.

Nice looking site and the usability is good. I actually shopped at pressieport at Christmas and was very happy with the experience and customer service.

    One point:

    - The comodo security cert should be clickable to check its validity. I’d also suggest displaying it more prominently on the checkout page.

Best of luck with the site and the business. Great to see another online retailer joining the IIA.

    Hi Fred,

As the others have said, well done for the bravery of puting yourself forward!

Overlapping with some other feedback, I like the site – appealing and easy-to-use – but what makes it compelling for me to spend my time on it?

    Some suggestions:

    - Include a gift of the day/week, and embed a video of you guys using it/playing with it/breaking it!

    - Why is the newsletter archives link a sub-menu of the Blog navigation link? It’s a little confusing.

    - Keep consistency on the brand tags – on the home page, you have a list of the top brands, but clicking through, I see the brand cloud. I’d prefer to see the cloud on the home page as well!

    - Why not a product tag cloud?

    Hope this is helpful!

Great site, here are some tips on speeding up the load time of the site, pages, javascripts, images and css

    Make fewer HTTP requests
    -Combine files (CSS+JS)
-Use CSS sprites and image maps
    -Reduce file sizes
    -Minify JS files
    -Compress CSS files
Add expiration headers to folders containing css, js and images
Put CSS files on top and JS files at the bottom.

Just a few suggestions – I’m not a pro at this so take or leave it!

    Home Page:
    - There are very few calls to action – the most eye-catching thing is the “Call Us” button! Have you tested “Buy Now” or similar buttons for the items on the page? I would also add something of this nature to the Valentines button.
    - Flat rate delivery button is nice – could be a great spot to also advertise your free delivery for orders over €100 too.
    - The horizontal blue nav is one of the first things that catches my eye – however a lot of these nav items don’t drive me deeper into the site. Things like testimonials and press could be incorporated into the blog and others moved to a footer nav, leaving room for items like Gift Certificates/Sale items etc etc.

    Delivery Page:
    - Suggest splitting into R.O.I./Northern Ireland (if shipping info is the same, is very hard to tell!) and Rest of World or whatever is necessary, then putting all info for those regions under the headings.
    - Under “Delivery Rates in Ireland” point 1 actually suggests purchases over €100 incur more charges, while point 3 could be read as saying that all items valued up to and over €100 receive free delivery. My suggestion is to combine points 1 and 3, and change the language to avoid confusion, ie. Orders valued at €100 and over receive free delivery.
    - How much do items over 30kg cost to deliver within R.O.I. and NI?
    - Is delivery time within Ireland overnight or 2-3 days? Both are listed.

    General:
    - In View Cart Subtotal doesn’t update when I add Gift Wrapping!!!
    - Your News section has great info but it’s really hard to find – maybe incorporate this into the blog then have more prominent headlines on the front page?
    - Just after I add an item to the cart, the Checkout button is in a great place to be clicked, but it might be reassuring to view cart before entering account details etc. Once you go to this page, it’s very hard to find the View Cart option without going through the Steps (is this a place where customers bail?). It feels like View Cart and Checkout options would work well on the right hand side of the horizontal blue nav bar.
    - On invididual item descriptions, if people have a narrow browser window open it cuts off right hand side ie. the Add to Checkout button – it may be better served under Gift Wrapping?

I have a lot more but I’ll stop there, I think this is a great idea and thanks for putting your site forth!
