Feedback Friday 3: Sonru.com stand out
Thanks again to everyone who has participated in Feedback Friday over the last few weeks. Since last week the Subscribe to Comments has been added (about time says you!) so it should help keep the conversation going.
This week’s Feedback Fanatics are Sonru.com, a member of the IIA since who have only recently gone live with their site and beta service. Edward Hendrick, MD of Sonru has a very specific aspect of his site that he would like you to focus on. He explained in an email to me:
“We are having some difficulties getting our message across from our home page. We are being confused with Skype etc, we need to get across the fact that two people do NOT have to be online at the same time.
We currently don’t have benefits up there and are trying to think of a nice way of doing so.
So we’d love some feedback on our home page and the message we are getting across. We would really appreciate people’s suggestions on how to improve it.
I think Feedback Friday is a great idea because you are getting fresh eyes giving genuine opinions, we are so used to looking at it now, it has become hard for us to judge.”
Please bear in mind the few low key guidelines and let’s hear what you think!

Sonru is a great idea, however I see what you mean about getting your message across, my first impression was, this is a dating or online meeting site, didnt get the recruitment tool idea until I read further, I think you might get over this by having a 2 -way communication link between an interviewer in a office environment and the candidate. But really great idea.
Hi Edward,
I see exactly what you mean in terms of getting the message across.
In fact your message is quite clear and your product is easy to understand, I think the issue is one of immediacy.
Currently one needs to view the slide show in order to understand the product, but I’m unlikely to do so unless you’ve already piqued my interest.
In my view your homepage would be greatly improved by a summary such as:
Save on traditional interview costs with Sonru:
1. Create your interview & enter candidates details
3. Sonru sends out invitations and manages video interviews
4. Log in to Sonru and watch interviews at your convenience
Obviously this would ideally be tied to your design in a meaningful way and would lead visitors to the next logical step such as going through the more detailed slide show, and viewing the case study.
I hope this simple piece of feedback helps,
best,
Frank
Hi Guys.
Good suggestions there.
Yes when people get into the tour they “get it”.
Think we should move the tour down a bit and maybe place a more explantory image at the top?
Regards,
Ed
Hi Ed,
There are several ways you could tackle it, I’m not sure I would simply move the slideshow down.
One possibility is to replace the current visible text on the slideshow are with something like the above, and on the last slide instead of ‘finish’ have a button going to the case study.
This is just one suggestion, there would be several ways to approach it.
I would examine the benefits/drawbacks of the slideshow method when making a decision – ie as opposed to leading the user to a unique page.
Do you currently have a way to track if people are viewing the slideshow and if they are viewing it all the way to the end? Also worth thinking about if not.
The case study page could be made a little more engaging I think, and possibly worth including a ‘sign up for free’ link at the bottom of that page.
There might be more compelling text for the sign up button also – ‘Try Sonru for free’ for example.
I’m not entirely sure what exactly I get for free if I sign up either – this is definitely worth looking at.
And finally, the sign up page, in my opinion, looks for too much information. Get my username/sonru sitename, my email address and a password – everything else I would imaging you can get from me later once I’m ‘in’.
Best,
Frank
Hi Frank.
Interesting suggestions there. We are currently working on implementing a new design across the application, should be there by the end of next week, the sign up page will look a lot less daunting then I hope, I agree with you, but I think it looks worst than it actually is!
You actually get 5 free credits when you sign up, so I guess we should be advertising this.
You think take out the current paragraph on the home page explaining what Sonru is and stick in your 3 points? This could work.
I also agree with you on the Case Study page, i think it needs to be sold more.
Appreciate the feedback Frank. Will discuss it here and see what we can come up with.
If you want to sign up i’ll give you 10 free credits for the effort you have put in, same applies to Keith and anyone else willing to lend their opinion.
Regards,
Ed
i would try a specific headline at the top of your page that says something like; Job interviews made easy. you interview process may have many applications but you have to zone in on the most important benefit to be effective! Keep it simple silly as they say!
Thanks Tom. We recently changed “Get Interviews Done” to “Cut Interiview Costs” to highlight that major benefit, so you think include “Job” in the introduction. We will have a think about this, thanks.
