Blogging for business: interview with authentic bin lorry wild track
Krishna De of BizGrowthNews.com and member of the IIA Social Media Working Group interviewed myself and Brendan Hughes of FBD and Chair of the group right after our workshop on the draft guide to Business Blogging on December 5th last. This workshop went very well not least because of Krishna’s great facilitation which ensured that participants gave as much as they got from the afternoon. Unfortunately we had some competition from a bin lorry towards the end of our conversation
While on the subject of social media, I’d like to draw your attention to what Krishna did here. She has a good quality digital still camera that can also capture video. Nothing fancy. At every event I see Krishna at I will often see her doing quick interviews with participants or speakers about their work, their thoughts on the events or current issues etc. Then she tidies up the video (I’m not sure which software she uses or how long this takes generally.) and it is perfect material for a blog. From a promotional point of view it’s a great way to get your blog noticed. For example this video below has been published in at least three places that I know of and already today has had 39 views on YouTube. Think of that in terms of your blog and how it could help you promote your company or your expertise. For those who are not so literary minded but are great speakers it’s a great way to blog.

Roseanne – thanks for sharing the video.
I am a great believer in using the technology that I have at my disposal so yes my camera is a little Sony digital still camera that also takes video and I carry it most places.
There is definitely a place for high quality video too.
II like to connect my community to people I meet and subjects I think they will be interested in and make that information available through my blog posts, podcasts, teleseminars, webinars and video’s.
I also syndicate my video’s to a number of sites not just YouTube.
As for editing – well with a PC that is not a dual processor or the most modern it can take a little time to render the video. (I’m of course always happy to test out other software if any of your readers from the world of high tech products want me to do so for them
I have used a number of different platforms from low cost platforms that also leave their branding on the videos through to Camtasia which I used in this case so I can add music and intro and exit slides, call outs and transitions.
An alternative would be to use a Flip camera where you can post immediately online and they now have a high def version.
I hope that’s of assistance to your readers.

[...] music from PodShow.com all mushed together in Windows Movie Maker which comes with Windows Vista. See comments on previous post to read more about what other people use for quick and dirty videos or please add your own comments [...]
Thanks Krishna for sharing those specifics with us about your hardware and software.
Once upon a time I had access to all sorts of high-end digital video editing software but in my current communications role a more basic approach suffices as I explain in this post.

Hi Dawn,
We are currently including the new ideas from the workshop in the draft and we hope to publish soon. I hope to release the 3 part podcast of the workshop today so if you get a chance to listen in and share any further thoughts. Keep following @iia on twitter and also @brendanhughes and you will be kept right up to date.
Thanks for your comment!

Greetings from the U.S.A. It’s amazing how small the world becomes by being a part of the internet community.
I really appreciate your video on business and social media/blogging.
We have a blog collective that joins bloggers/writers together so that collectively their voices will be greater than blogging on their own.
I would live to see more business owners sign up as users although I do not want to make it an advertising site.
Any comments would be appreciated.
Very interesting video.
I have learnt much more about social media and blogging and think it may be a useful addition for my business in the next year or two.
tons of good info. Thanks saving this
I might try starting a video blog. My credit card is running short of funds, so I have decided to take up business blogging so as to expand my small business’ reach. Do you think this is a good idea? Also, I would appreciate it, if you could share some tips with me.
Regards,
Tom
