Yes, Evan is right. If you are into marketing, do not rely with blogs alone. Audiences of blogs are more interested in general knowledge or what is, facts or even fictions. One more is that users does not really love ads, so its much better if you are not marketing anything on your site specially if it is strictly for your personal use.

I believe strongly in semantic markup and valid XHTML but have problems when using Wordpress which has a mind of its own. It is difficult to ensure high standards when a platform is aimed at such a wide user base with different or no technological skillsets.

Blogging does seem to be gaining great momentum in the marketing world. For specific micro niches and in particular locating the specific information, search engines such as google play an important role. Especially when geotargeting comes into play.

[...] John Breslin has done two fine posts on structure in blogs over at the IIA Blog. The first is basically about Structured Blogging (SB) and the second about semantic blogging. As many people know, the SB plug-ins for Wordpress and MT were released to a mainly positive response way back in Dec 2005. I made much use of them in the early months and was a big fan from an end-user perspective. Unfortunately, due to lack of further funding they were not able to keep up with Wordpress developments.
[...] Last time I talked about structured blogging, where microcontent such as microformats is positioned inline in the HTML (and subsequent syndication feeds) and can be rendered via CSS. Structured blogging and semantic blogging do not compete, but rather offer metadata in slightly different ways (using microcontent / microformats and RDF respectively). There are already mechanisms such as GRDDL which can be used to move from one to the other. [...]
